Gloria Swanson began her career 1913 at Chicago’s Essanay Studios. In 1916 she married Wallace Beery and the newlywed couple moved to Hollywood. He was the first of six husbands. During Hollywood’s silent era, Swanson was a magical screen personality.
Of screen, the darkhaired movie diva enjoyed oversized life that encompassed a spectacular LA mansion, a fleet of cars, and a procession of husbands and lovers. It gave the divine Gloria the rare distinction of being the first Hollywood movie star to wed European royalty.
